Very Hungry Caterpillar (K)
I started this projects by reading "The very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. The students traced a cup 12 times and they were given a very light green, dark green and a blue tempera paint. I encouraged the students to make every circle different and gave them different tools to explore the painting with (a piece of cardboard, a popsicle stick, and anything else you would like for them to use). The students will paint one red for the caterpillars face. The next day I had the students cut as carefully as possible and stack the circles, then they glued the circles down and we talked about overlapping. the last day that we worked on this project we used marker to add the finishing touches. This project was overall very successful only a few kiddos didn't totally get it but they still learned and enjoyed the activities.
EQ's-
How am I using shape, line, and color in my artwork?
How and where do artists get their ideas?
What is overlapping...?
