Picasso Styled Portraits (5th)

This was a major project in 5th grade this year. I started this project by taking my students to the computer lab and letting them explore the website Mr. Picasso head. The students were asked to create a unique portrait using as many aspects of the website as possible then to put it up on the internet for the world to see.
The second class we looked at a power point presentation I put together about Picasso, cubism, and self portraits. Then the students are asked to draw a self portrait in a cubist manner on a manila 12"x18" paper, then they attach tracing paper and trace the drawing again.
The third day is a fun painting day where the students are given 10 different tempera colors and they paint two papers they can use a ton of different techniques when doing this ( smash their paper with another students, fold their paper in half making reflection paintings. These papers will be used to collage the cubist self portrait.
The fourth day to whenever your students finish the students ail cut a section out of their tracing paper, trace this piece on one of the painted papers (these have been cut into fourths so that they have tons of paper to choose from).then they will glue these pieces down like a puzzle. I tried to get my students to use different color schemes for the background versus the clothing versus the face/hair.
